The Bahman Festival honors Bahman — Vohu Manah, the first and greatest of the Zoroastrian Amesha Spentas — the 'Good Mind' or 'Good Thought.' It falls in the month of Bahman, a month dedicated to introspection and wisdom. On this day, Iranians traditionally eat foods made from grain and celebrate the principle of right thinking.

Traditions

  • Eating grain foods: Grains represent the nurturing of life and the mind.
  • Reflection: A day for contemplation of good thoughts and intentions.

Did You Know?

Vohu Manah is the first of the seven divine attributes in Zoroastrianism. The month of Bahman contains the second day as the festival day — a doubling of the sacred name (month and day both named Bahman).
