1 Bahman 1404

Quatrain 74 of 75

“I sent my Soul through the Invisible,

Some letter of that After-life to spell:

And after many days my Soul return'd,

And said, "Behold, Myself am Heav'n and Hell."”

Omar Khayyamtr. Edward FitzGerald, 1859

Reflection · Winter 1404

I sent my Soul through the Invisible, some letter of that After-life to spell — and the soul returned, after many days of winter search through the long dark, and said: Behold, myself am Heav'n and Hell. In winter this report arrives at its most serious application. The heaven of the winter fire, the warm cup, the winter beauty of bare trees and cold stars. The hell of the winter dark, the long nights, the cold pressing in.

Both. Myself am Heav'n and Hell. The theological architecture is internal, not external. You carry both the reward and the punishment inside you. This is winter's truth and spring's seed.
