24 Tir 1405

Quatrain 35 of 75

“I think the Vessel, that with fugitive

Articulation answer'd, once did live,

And merry-make; and the cold Lip I kiss'd

How many Kisses might it take—and give.”

Omar Khayyamtr. Edward FitzGerald, 1859

Reflection · Summer 1405

The vessel in summer is at peak articulation — warm, full, responsive. Once did live — not yet. Still lives. Still merry-makes. The summer is the living and the merry-making in full expression, and Khayyam's verse holds the cold future beside the warm present not as warning but as dimension. The vessel is more itself when you know what it will become.

How many kisses might it take and give — the summer account is in progress. Not all of them. Not close to all of them. The summer vessel is still in the giving phase, still warm, still articulate. Let it give. Let it take.
