6 Ordibehesht 1405

Quatrain 32 of 75

“There was a Door to which I found no Key:

There was a Veil past which I could not see:

Some little Talk awhile of ME and THEE

There seemed—and then no more of THEE and ME.”

Omar Khayyamtr. Edward FitzGerald, 1859

Reflection · Spring 1405

In spring the Door and the Veil are present but peripheral — the season's abundance pushes them to the edge of the frame. Some little Talk of ME and THEE — this is what spring is made of: the conversations that matter, the actual meeting of one specific person with another. The door with no key is always there, even in Farvardin. But in spring you are not standing before it. You are in the middle of the ME and THEE, in the middle of the talking, in the middle of what Khayyam identifies as the precious thing.

Let spring be the ME and THEE in full voice. For now: the little talk, the specific warmth, the exchange of one specific self with another. This is everything.
