The ball in the summer field has been rolling for a season — it has gone right and left and found its summer position. The Player's knowledge is most present in summer. Right or Left as strikes the Player — in summer the strikes have a logic visible in retrospect. But the ball makes no question of Ayes and Noes. Even in summer, when the field is warmest, the ball has no voice in the decision. The Player holds the mallet.
