26 Mehr 1405

Quatrain 55 of 75

“The Vine had struck a Fibre; which about

If clings my Being—let the Sufi flout;

Of my Base Metal may be filed a Key,

That shall unlock the Door he howls without.”

Omar Khayyamtr. Edward FitzGerald, 1859

Reflection · Autumn 1405

The Vine fully attached in autumn — the fibres firmly gripped, the summer growth now wooden and strong. The Sufi howls outside — in autumn this image has a different quality, the outdoor cold beginning to make his position less comfortable to hold.

Of my Base Metal in autumn the impurity has been tested by the year. The key that was filed from imperfect material in spring has been proven over the seasons. It unlocks the door. The Sufi is welcome to keep howling.
