25 Mehr 1405

Quatrain 54 of 75

“I tell Thee this—When, starting from the Goal,

Over the shoulders of the flaming Foal

Of Heav'n Parwin and Mushtari they flung,

In my predestin'd Plot of Dust and Soul”

Omar Khayyamtr. Edward FitzGerald, 1859

Reflection · Autumn 1405

The Plot in autumn is more visible than in spring — the year is far enough along that the predestined shape of things is legible. The Pleiades rise early in autumn evenings and stand high in the autumn sky, these same stars that were flung over the flaming Foal at the moment of beginning. In my predestined Plot of Dust and Soul — autumn is the season for reading the Plot. Not with resignation but with the specific interest of someone who has been living something for long enough to see its shape.

This is where I am, this is the shape of it. I did not choose it. I am in it. It is mine.
